National Nature Park Satoyama School

Shoushan National Nature Park features a rarely-seen in Taiwan well-preserved low-elevation ecosystem. Since is the park is connected to the greater Kaohsiung metropolitan area and close to local residents, the “Satoyama Initiative” management concept has been introduced and a “National Nature Park Satoyama Academy” established with the aim of promoting harmony and coexistence of nature and society.

The Shoushan National Natural Park Preparatory Office embarked on curricular design and development of environmental education in 2013. After a series of discussions, development, study, trials, and adjustments, the National Nature Park Satoyama Academy will finally open for classes in 2014. The Satoyama Academy offers a series of educational services such as outdoor education, professional workshops, and specialized projects for different kinds of participants. So far there are four kinds of outdoor teaching activities designed for elementary and junior high school students, focusing on the Formosan rock macaque, invasive non-native species, history courses, and geology courses. Moreover, featured projects will be held from time to time to provide diverse forms of learning for different participants, guiding them to reflect upon the relationship between themselves and the environment.

The carefully designed courses and activities of the National Nature Park Satoyama Academy will provide the public with the opportunity to experience the rich culture and ecology of Shoushan National Nature Park. Every visitor is a seed of the Satoyama Academy. We welcome you to participate in our courses and activities.
